I
recently saw Deja Durai at the Capitol Swimsuit Contest
a few months ago and while there were many beautiful
contestants; this young lady was a "Stand-Out". Of
course she won the Urban Model Award that night and its
no surprise that she has been winning ever since,...
Keep an eye out for this rising star.
CRED: Favorite Color?
Deja:
Yellow is my favorite color.
CRED: What was your very
first car?
Deja: My
first Car was a BMW 328i.
CRED: What was your first
kiss like?
Deja: It
must have been bad because I do not remember lol. I just
remember getting in trouble for it because I got caught.
CRED: Your best attributes?
Deja: I
believe that my best attribute would have to be the
curve in my back. Your back is what defines a woman’s
shape and gives them that hour glass figure.
CRED: Your flaws?
Deja: I’m
very analytical. I tend to think too hard sometimes.
CRED: What is your favorite
thing to do besides photo shoots?
Deja: I
just like to spend my extra time trying new things,
visiting new places and meeting exciting people. I am
really a big kid at heart so I definitely enjoy
adventurous activities that would give me a scary
thrill.
CRED:
What was your favorite
subject in high school and/or college?
Deja:My
favorite subject in school was English. I love to write
especially if it’s about history or something
controversial. I also enjoy free creative writing.
CRED: Who is your
celebrity crush?
Deja:
Tyrese and Nicki Minaj
CRED: What do you regret if
anything?
Deja:
There are some things I am unhappy with, however I never
regret anything. Regretting is like feeling sorry for
yourself and that’s a sign weakness
CRED: What are you most
proud of about yourself/your life?
Deja: More
than anything I am proud of the women that I have grown
into over the years. I dealt with a great deal of
challenges in my life but through it all I’ve become a
intellectual, strong, humble, determined, wise,
forgiving and a loving young women. Those things are
what helped me reach the level of Success I have reached
so far at such a young age.
CRED: Do you have a good
group of supporters around you?
Deja: I
have a very strong support system from my manager and my
Board Administration family along with other special
individual that are really helping me though this
journey. I was actually surprised to see how many of my
High school and Junior high school alumni friends
supported me. Since I went public with my modeling
career, I have had so many positive approaches by
friends, associates, and family. They all told me how
proud they are of me and that means so much.
CRED: How you do you deal
with challenges/competition/hurtles?
Deja: I
really don’t have a certain way that I deal with
challenges I just always get through them. I guess it’s
because I know that giving up is never an options.
CRED: Who inspires you?
Why?

Deja: My
grandmother inspired me the most. Growing up, she was
everything I wanted to be. In my opinion she was
everything a woman should be. She was such a lady and
such a true Diva. She taught me so much about myself,
life, and how to be a lady at a young age. I owe
everything I am to her. Also, unlike most girls who
idolized Marilyn Monroe, I idolized the 1930-1950s Pin
Up Girls. There were Pin Up up girls before the term
"model" was used. They were so sexy with class! They
totally inspire the root of my modeling career.
CRED: What was it like
working with Wale in the “Pat your Weave” video?
Deja: Wale
is a very funny and entertaining person. The room was
filled with laughter and we really had a lot of fun.
Most of the time, I actually forgot we were shooting a
video because it felt like a house party. I look forward
to working with Wale and UCB in the feature.
CRED: Who is your favorite
DMV artist?
Deja:
Right now, I am really feeling all of the rising DMV
artist.
CRED: How did it feel to
win the 1st place Urban Model Award at the
Capital City Swimsuit Competition?
Deja: I
was so excited when I won the Miss Urban Award. I didn’t
even know that they were going to acknowledge the urban
models so it was surprising as well. Everyone just kept
screaming at me telling me to run down stairs lol. I was
really happy to win because the competition had a lot of
beautiful woman competing and out of all of them I was
special I guess
CRED: What's your pet
peeve?
Deja: I
know I’m tiny and I know it arouses curiosity, but I
hate it when people pick me up without asking lol.
Please just don’t sweep me off my feet unless you plan
to marry me.
CRED: How do you deal with
stress? Disappointments?
Deja: It’s
extremely difficult to go to school full time while
building a modeling career. It’s like my mind is always
working over time doing two things a once and at times
it can be very stressful. To help me with stress, I just
remember that I want to be successful in life, so I have
no choice but to deal with it and keep pushing. I would
rather be stressed being productive working toward big
dreams instead of being stressed for no reason over the
little things. I always try to have a “plan B” just in
case something doesn’t go according to plan and that
would eliminate me having to face a disappointment.
CRED: What do you do
(daily) to work on perfecting your good qualities? What
do you do (daily) to work on your needed improvements?
Deja: I
always find myself throughout the day writing down ideas
for shoots or my career goals. It helps me to stay a
step ahead of the game because I have ideas already
mapped out. I hate to workout, but of course I do it
because it keeps this body in good health on the inside
and outside.
CRED:
What do you do other then
modeling?
Deja: I am
a full time student at Howard University studying Public
Relations and Psychology.
CRED: What's your guilty
pleasure?
Deja: I
love to eat. OMG the way to my heart is to just treat me
out to some good food. I am definitely a fat girl at
heart!
CRED: Where do you see
yourself in 5 years?
Deja: In 5
years I see myself a successful business woman working
besides other moguls in the entertainment industry. I
honestly don’t have a desire to always be in the
spotlight all my life. In 5 years I see myself happy and
prosperous.
CRED: Any big projects we
should be on the lookout for from you?
